Christ The King Gallery

"Bird Trio Set"

Custom Trio Painting

I finished a great fun filled four month project this weekend. A custom trio set for a couple in Johnston.

They built their home 3 years ago and have been searching for the right artist and work to fill a large wall in their family room, next to a large glass wall looking into the woods. It was a great success.

Char and I first met in November of 2009 at a Caribou Coffee. We hit it off right away, she was looking to work with someone she could relate to. My marketing and community involvement struck her from my facebook profile. From there, we met on several more occasions getting the paint colors just right and the sketches and studies to proof.

One step at a time we made great progress. I first cut out three sheets of paper to size and brought them to the house. We really wanted to make sure this size of canvas was going to fit the space just right. From there, we selected the colors of paint. I painted some paper the solid color to make sure it would look good in the room. Then, I did some research on the type of bird Char wanted in her home. Their beautiful home has amazing wood and Asian touches throughout. We knew we wanted to keep it simple and not have too much detail. I sketched some birds and it was a go.

From there I painted each canvas, and brought the pieces to their home. Throughout the next couple of weeks, we worked together on making the birds just right. After they were done, we realized that the simplicity of the bird wasn’t completing the set. It needed another element to tie all three together. There was a dogwood potted plant in the living room that would do the trick. So we added small pieces of dogwood to each piece and it finished it off perfectly.

I will go back to their home in a few weeks, hopefully enjoy some dinner and great company, and finish off each canvas with a matte spray.
